Sender Policy Framework, or SPF, is a verification system, which is intended to stop the so-called email spoofing where an e-mail message can be sent from one address, but to look as being sent from a different, typically with the objective to fraud the recipient in some way. If SPF protection is activated for a domain, a specific record is generated for it in the Domain Name System and all DNS servers worldwide get it. The record features all e-mail servers that are permitted to send authentic messages from an address part of the domain. When an email is sent, the very first DNS server it encounters verifies the SPF record and if its sending server is authorized, the message is forwarded to the targeted destination. In case, however, the sending server is not included in the SPF record for the given domain, the e-mail message won't be forwarded and it'll be discarded. In the event that you employ this solution, it'll stop third parties from sending spam which seem to have been sent from you.

SPF Protection in Cloud Hosting

If you host your domains in a cloud hosting account with us and we handle the email addresses for them, you will be able to enable SPF protection for any of them with several clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. This service can be found in a section of its own where you'll be able to view which domain names are already protected. For those that are not, you can enable the SPF protection solution and set up various things in the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your e-mails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, and to create a rule that email messages can be sent only when your domains have our MX records. The last mentioned option is the most secure one, and it can be used if we manage the emails for your domains and do not use a different e-mail supplier. The newly created records will propagate within a day and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an e-mail by using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company, you can secure your emails by activating the SPF security service for every domain name hosted in the account with only a couple of mouse-clicks. This is done from the Emails section of our Hepsia Control Panel which is included with the semi-dedicated accounts and even if you lack previous experience with these things, you will not have any kind of trouble to enable the security. All that you'll need to do will be to choose a domain from a drop-down menu and then type the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. When the new record propagates, messages from your email addresses will be sent globally only if they're sent from that specific server. In case your email addresses are managed by our company and not by a third-party provider, you'll also be able to benefit from an option for emails to be sent only if the domain features our MX records and the latter is the safest option.
